The US Zip Code Map has become a must for every business, whether small or large. You can use these maps to:

These were implemented with the sole purpose of delivering mails only 52 years ago, during World War II and officially implemented in 1963. USPS felt the needs of these Zip Codes when a majority of their employees joined the military. As a result, they had to hire new workers who lacked the necessary knowledge to sort and deliver mail quickly. This resulted in a slow delivery of mail.

A postal inspector named Robert Moon suggested this unique system to help mail clerks know the destination of mail.

In a Zipcode the first number is used to identify a region of the United States- starting from East Coast with "0" and ending on the West Coast with "9". The next two numbers help identify the city to send the mail to. Last 2 digits designate a delivery area or small post offices and postal zones.

These codes were also distinguished according to their types:

ZIP+4

These 5 digit Zip codes were expanded in 1983 to ZIP+4, often called "plus-four codes", "add-on codes", or "add-ons". Here an additional four digits are used to identify a geographic segment such as a city block, a group of apartments, etc. The initial attempts to promote universal use of the new format met with public resistance and even today you do not require this code as it is usually calculated automatically when the mail is sorted and processed.

These ZIP+4 codes are required by every Post Office but not every deliverable addresses have a ZIP+4 Code assigned to them.

Some remote and rural areas in the US do not even have a Zip code as there aren't enough deliverable addresses to create a mail route.
